1. Professional Conduct
- Maintain a respectful, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Foster an environment where students feel valued regardless of background or experience. - Adhere to professional standards in communication with students and staff.
Keep language clear, polite, and timely across all forms of communication. - Be a role model for maritime professionalism, ethics, and safety.
Uphold high standards of behavior, reflecting industry expectations at all times.
2. Course Preparation
- Ensure all course materials are complete, accurate, and uploaded before the course begins.
All content must be ready in advance to avoid delays or confusion. - Include clear learning outcomes, schedules, and assessment criteria.
Transparency helps students stay focused and organized. - Use relevant and up-to-date industry practices aligned with STCW and IMO standards where applicable.
Ensure training aligns with international maritime requirements and best practices.
3. Student Engagement
- Actively monitor student participation and respond promptly to queries.
Engage with learners regularly and address concerns within 24–48 hours. - Encourage critical thinking, practical application, and collaborative learning.
Use real-life maritime examples, simulations, and teamwork exercises to deepen understanding. - Use multimedia and interactive tools to maintain engagement.
Quizzes, videos, and discussion prompts help maintain attention and reinforce key points.
4. Assessment and Feedback
- Design fair and transparent assessments aligned with course objectives.
Avoid trick questions and ensure grading criteria are clear and available to students. - Grade and return assignments promptly with constructive feedback.
Help students improve through specific comments and actionable suggestions. - Report student progress and concerns to the LMS admin or training coordinator when necessary.
Early reporting enables timely support and intervention if needed.
5. Technology Use
- Familiarize yourself with the LMS tools.
Be proficient in managing content, tracking progress, and using communication tools within the platform. - Ensure course content is mobile-responsive and accessible.
Materials should function properly on all devices and meet accessibility standards. - Report technical issues to the IT support team as soon as possible.
Inform students if any delays or alternate instructions are necessary.
6. Safety and Compliance
- Integrate safety protocols and maritime regulations into all relevant training content.
Emphasize accident prevention, emergency procedures, and compliance culture. - Promote awareness of international standards and compliance (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, etc.).
Ensure students understand not just the rules, but their purpose and consequences. - Maintain proper documentation for all assessments and attendance.
Keep detailed records for auditing, reporting, and legal compliance purposes.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in instructor training and development programs.
Stay current on teaching strategies, maritime updates, and educational technology. - Collect student feedback to refine and improve course delivery.
Use feedback forms or informal check-ins to gather insights and adjust accordingly. - Collaborate with fellow instructors to share best practices.
Teamwork strengthens consistency and helps everyone stay sharp and aligned.
